From Behind the CrossBEAU: Goodbye!

So, as it turns out, I wasn’t so much able to shoot arrows of truth as I was able to receive them. Today is my last day as an intern at Beaufort Books and I have learned an indescribable amount. There were many unexpected happenings, like the fact that the aforementioned arrows turned out to be like Cupid’s, but instead of rendering me love-struck, they hit me with insight into the publishing industry and further understanding of what I might want to do after I graduate college. The arrows weren’t fatal like those shot by all the cool characters lately – like The Avengers guy, Hawkeye, and that bold redheaded girl from the animated movie, Brave, (apparently it’s very in style right now to be an archer) – they were instead the kind that infuse the victim with something good. In my case, the good has been experience in a great work environment learning about an industry that really interests me.

I was certainly disappointed to have had so little time to blog, but the upside was that I was able to work on really interesting projects that really gave me a feel for both marketing/publicity and the publishing/editorial process. Since I’m such a fan of words and the English language, it was great to be able to write with a variety of purposes and read with a different eye.

I thought I’d be able to shoot arrows of truth right away, but I think my lack of blogging speaks for itself in that regard: I needed to learn and be shot with arrows of truth during this internship! My moniker should have been “Standing in Front of a CrossBEAU,” but in my defense, that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

I am so glad to have been a Beaufort Intern, and I’ll leave you with a thought for the day that speaks to my lovely pun:

The arrow has to draw back to fly ahead. -Proverb
