THE WOMAN IN THE PARK Reviews

Friday, May 10th, 2019

“Obsession and loneliness intersect with explosive results in this thrilling story of a woman whose life is a total mystery—even to herself. Tense, cinematic, and relentlessly suspenseful, The Woman in the Park will have you addicted, consuming one chapter after another until you reach its chilling conclusion.” — Megan Collins, author of The Winter Sister

The Woman in the Park is a spine-tingling read that makes you question all your assumptions from one page to the next. Imagine if The Girl on the Train and The Hours had a baby, it would be The Woman in the Park. Part Thriller, part literary homage. I thoroughly enjoyed it!” —Adam Mitzner, author of A Matter of Will

The Woman in the Park is one of those novels that you can’t stop thinking about even when you aren’t reading it. Hooked me from the very first page until the shocking end! A must read!” —Marina Di Guardo, author of La Memoria Dei Corpi

The Woman in the Park is an insanely smart, dark trickster of a thriller. Go ahead. Scan the horizon for clues. Become obsessed. Have a great time. Read it twice. (I did.)” —Rebecca Coffey, author of Hysterical: Anna Freud’s Story

“Like a Rubik’s cube, The Woman in the Park twists the perception of reality and fantasy, keeping the reader hooked and curiously searching for the solution. Intriguing, intelligent and multifaceted.” —Vera Näsström, author of All Is As It Should Be

“Fast and thrilling, Sorkin and Holmqvist’s novel The Woman in the Park kept me guessing until the final page. There’s no tranquility to this Manhattan’s Upper East Side, just darkness, disquiet, and suspense.” —James Sturz, author of Sasso.

“This richly textured, beautifully written, and intricately plotted thriller, with a deeply sympathetic female protagonist, is at once a page-turner, a story of loss and redemption, and a beautiful testament to the power of the human spirit. The Woman in the Park is a remarkable achievement. I loved it.” —Caroline Nastro, author of The Bear Who Couldn’t Sleep

Ginger Snaps

Jack is back! Attorney Jack Patterson returns to Little Rock, Arkansas after an old acquaintance, Dr. Douglas Stewart, is arrested for marijuana cultivation, possession, and distribution. Jack is no expert on drug cases, but meets with Stewart to fulfill a promise to his late wife, Angie, who was close to Stewart. Expecting to wrap up his involvement in an hour and enjoy the rest of the weekend golfing, Jack hears from Stewart that his arrest isn’t about the marijuana. Teaming up with his bodyguard, Clovis, and defense attorney Micki Lawrence, Jack begins to investigate why this highly-respected scientist was growing marijuana. He learns that Stewart had alerted the government about the existence of his marijuana garden years ago. Why the arrest now? Why are the Feds claiming terrorist involvement? Stewart’s wife, Liz, claims it has to be about her ginger snaps which are laced with marijuana to help ease the pain of cancer patients. As Jack delves deeper into the case, he discovers that both Stewarts and the federal government are hiding secrets; secrets that connect to a past Jack and all involved would rather forget.

When Men Betray

Why would Woody Cole, a peaceful, caring man, shoot a US Senator in cold blood on live television? That’s the mystery facing attorney Jack Patterson as he returns to Little Rock, Arkansas, a town he swore he would never step foot in again.

When Men Betray is the first book of fiction from author, lecturer, and political insider Webb Hubbell. A departure from his previous book, Friends in High Places, an account of his rise and fall in Little Rock, Hubbell crafts a deft narrative of mystery and political intrigue. Set in a fictionalized version of his home town of Little Rock, Arkansas, readers will be immersed into the steamy world behind the southern BBQ and antebellum facade—a seedy underbelly of secrets and betrayals. Clever readers may recognize the colorful personalities and locales of the Arkansas political scene.

Jack is supported by a motley but able crew; loyal assistant Maggie, college-aged daughter Beth, feisty lawyer Micki, and his bodyguard Clovis. Together, Jack and his rag-tag team are in a race against time to discover Woody’s hidden motive. All he has is a series of strange clues, hired thugs gunning for him, and the one man who knows everything isn’t talking. Alliances are tested, buried tensions surface, and painful memories are relived as he tries to clear the name of his old college friend. Jack Patterson will find that even the oldest friendships can be quickly destroyed when men betray.

Above Empyrean

Anyone who read George Orwell’s 1984 before that date will remember being amazed at just how much his prophecy came true. In Above Empyrean, political pundit Bruce Herschensohn gives us another, equally frightening glimpse into a possible future.

Above Empyrean is a fictional projection of what the author believes lies ahead if the United States loses the Global War against Islamist Terrorism. Herschensohn explains, “Although this book is fictional, the descriptions of the U.S. takeover are based, with accuracy, on real, non-fictional takeovers of other nations and territories by tyrannical forces in recent times. This story of what could lie ahead was painful to imagine and even more painful to write. But the greatest pain of all will come not if it is written or read, but if it is lived.”

Chameleon

Intricately-plotted with unexpected twists and hair-raising turns, Chameleon is the story of Jon Phillips, a highly successful Wall Street bond trader whose excesses-a lavish Upper East Side apartment, gorgeous women with expensive drug habits, fancy cars, and his desire for millions-know no bounds. After years of selfishness and extravagance, he plans his exit through an unprecedented deal. As a last hurrah and a way to secure his financial future, he attempts to gain control of the U.S. Government bond market in one of the largest transactions ever seen on Wall Street. He will make millions, but the barely-legal procedure incurs enormous financial and regulatory risk for the investment bank he works for and requires the participation of some less-than-honorable investors. After the transaction goes spectacularly wrong, the bank immediately fires him. Worse, he soon finds himself on the run from a disreputable Russian financier/gangster who had invested in his scheme in order to launder money through the U.S. financial markets.

As the Russians desperately attempt to recover their lost millions, Jon becomes the target of an intense manhunt. Past lovers, new menaces, and numerous apparently accidental deaths line his trail, testing his ability to change and adapt. Female conquests come back to haunt him as this revealing look at the world of big money and the people who get caught up in it unfolds. Jon’s survival depends on putting the past behind him and becoming a calculated predator instead of the vulnerable prey.
