  • Eric Kampmann

    President

    Eric Kampmann has worked in book publishing since 1970 at Viking, St. Martin’s, and later Simon & Schuster. He has worked with independent publishers since 1981. Eric is the founder of Midpoint Trade Books, a sales and distribution company for independent publishers. Eric has also taught book publishing courses at Harvard, Columbia, Hofstra, and NYU. Eric has owned Beaufort Books since the 1980s.

  • Alec Klein

    Publisher

    Alec Klein is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist formerly of The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. His groundbreaking investigations have uncovered a wide array of wrongdoing and set free several prisoners who were wrongfully convicted of murder and accused of other crimes. He also has helped dozens of excessively sentenced prisoners gain their freedom through parole and commutation.

  • Alexa Schmidt

    Senior Editor

    Alexa Schmidt started her time at Beaufort Books as an intern in the Fall of 2023, later becoming the Senior Editor of Beaufort in the Spring of 2024. In her time since graduating from Portland State University with her Master’s degree in Book Publishing and from the University of Denver’s Publishing Institute, she’s been a communication analyst and freelance editor working with select authors including Robert Conlin, Dan Lawton, and Autumn Green. She worked with Ooligan Press at Portland State in both editorial and marketing and has published two research reports on the book industry, including an in-depth analysis of the cross-national cross-media adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s series The Witcher.

    When Alexa isn’t editing, she spends time trying to catch up on her TBR stack, walking in the hills of Oregon, baking copious amounts of chocolate chip cookies, or traveling to ski, hike, or catch a concert. 

    How do you organize your books?Though she currently has books stacked up across her home in various locations and categories, her ultimate dream is to have an in-home library inspired by her childhood love of Beauty and the Beast.

  • Kaylee Lovato

    Marketing and Publicity Manager

    Kaylee first served as an intern for Beaufort Books in the Fall of 2022, later acquiring a bookselling position at Barnes and Noble, where she worked for over a year, earning the lead bookseller title in the Children’s department. She joined the Beaufort team after a position opened up in the Summer of 2024 as the part-time Marketing and Publicity Associate. 

    Prior, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Book Publishing from Portland State University, where she worked as a staff member at Ooligan Press, the student-run trade publisher on campus. If Kaylee isn’t snuggled up with her cat, reading, you can probably find her taking pictures of her books for her bookstagram, in the kitchen baking something sweet, or spending time with her friends and family.
